About Black Onyx

Considered to be the blackest of all gems, Black Onyx, is a banded type of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of silica that is composed of tiny intergrowths of minerals such as moganite and quartz. The shades of the bands vary from white to purple and blue. It can well be mixed with any other semi-precious gemstone, diamond or pearls so as to create enchanting embellishments, black onyx just goes great with several different types of stones.

Black Onyx was previously used in Egypt in Second Dynasty to make bowls and other pottery items. It was known to ancient Greeks as well as Romans.

About Jade

Both for diehard collectors and jewellery lovers, Jade is an intriguing gemstone. Jade or yu as it is referred to as in China, is a generic term for two different gems nephrite and jadeite. The two gems only differ on the basis of their chemical composition and colours.

Nephrite can be medium to dark green, gray green, white, yellow and red. Jadeite displays hints of tints such as green, white, pink, red, black, brown and violet. The very fine grade of jade is the one wherein the colour is evenly distributed.

Jade is not thoroughly transparent, though it bears a fine lustre and hence the cabochon is the form best suited to the gemstone. Fine slivers, blemishes, streaks and veins are often considered as the beauty of the gemstone rather than terming them up as flaws.
